GS installation reminder... Due to a quirk in our installation software with
XP, sometimes the INFO file does not get copied from where you run the
INSTALL program into the GS folder. To fix the "Missing INFO file" error,
copy your INFO file to the GS directory.

  • In the windows version I got an "Invalid Input" error or in the mac version I got a crash when I start up the software. What do I do? INTERNET QUESTIONS Q. What browser do you recommend? A. If you have America Online, Compuserve or Prodigy, their browsers usually work, but they sometimes aren't as reliable or perform as well. Internet Explorer 4.X or 5.X is preferred, but Netscape 4.X also works. Q. My account name and/or password doesn't work. What's wrong? A. On our site, account names and passwords are case sensitive! Try using lower case and it should work. If you still have problems call our tech support guys at 304-487-1019 to investigate further. (Note: Please don't email as we don't deal with account issues by email due to potential security problems. We do this to protect you!) Note: Passwords will only be emailed to the email we have on file. Q. Owners in my league complain the text in reports is small on the screen. Can I do anything to correct this? A. Both Netscape and Internet Explorer allow you to change the size of fonts on viewed pages. On Netscape, under the "View" Menu, there are "Increase Font" and "Decrease Font" options. On Internet Explorer, under the "View" Menu, select the text size option to change text appearance. INSTALLATION & SETUP QUESTIONS Q. When I download my software via internet ship and try to install it, I get an error message "Please insert disk 2". What do I do? A. You did not get a complete download. Please delete what you downloaded and try it again. If you try several times and get the same result, then contact CFS tech support. Q. When I run the software it either crashes or tells me a file is missing? What do I do? A. You didn't run the SETUP program. You must run SETUP before you run the main software program. Q. I am a renewal user. What do I need from last year's version to keep the information in the farm system? A. After you install the new version of our software, copy the League and Farm files from last year's folder to the new folder or directory. Then run Setup. ***Do not install the new version on top of the old version unless you made a backup of the old version first.*** Q. I've made a mistake in selecting our stat categories. How can I fix this? A. Copy the Setup program to any other directory that does not contain any other CFS product. (Windows users: Be careful NOT to make a shortcut when copying!) Run it. Answer questions: Answer the first question Yes, then any other question No. Then select correct categories and weights and click OK. When finished running Setup, copy the file 'Stats' from that directory to your league's directory or folder. Q. When I enter the software and am ready to draft rosters, no players except for XXX show up? A. If you have not downloaded the week 00 file, you need to do that to get the Opening Day Rosters. If you did download week 00, then you did not uncompress the file to get the rosters. (See next question if you still have problems.) Q. I downloaded the week 00 or uncompressed file, ran it and still no players showed up to draft? A. Make sure you downloaded the week 00 file into the directory/folder that your CFS product is installed. When you extract the new file (Hitter/Pitchers, Skaters/Goalies, Hoopster, or Drivers), it should prompt you if you wish to overwrite what is there. You must answer Y. Then try running the software again. Q. I just got a new computer... how do I transfer my software to a new machine? A. Find the backup floppy when you installed your CFS product originally this season. Then, onto a new and different floppy, create a backup of your league files on the old machine using the BACKUP to DRIVE A or BACKUP to DRIVE B icons in your program group for your CFS program (see the manual for info on creating this backup). Next, on the new machine, reinstall your CFS product (the same way you installed it on the old machine... run the INSTALL.EXE file). Last, use the RESTORE from DRIVE A or RESTORE from DRIVE B icons creating the in program group to restore your league's datafiles to your new machine's directory. (No need to rerun Setup on the new machine, as your restored backup should be as of where you were at on the old machine.) THAT'S IT!!! PRINTING QUESTIONS Q. How can I fax reports? A. Every fax software operates differently. Check your fax software manual for individual features. Fax software sets up a print driver; select it and print to it as you would any other printer. Q. When I import a report into a word processor or e-mail package that I saved from a text file, my columns are not lined up. Why? A. There are two types of font widths proportional and monospaced. Monospaced fonts such as Courier, Courier New, or Monaco rely on equal character widths, whereas proportional fonts can vary. We suggest Courier/Courier New at for 8 or 9 point for optimum results. GENERAL OPERATION QUESTIONS Q. In the Windows version I got an "Invalid Input" error or in the Mac version I got a crash when I start up the software. What do I do? A. First, delete the stat file you downloaded and redownload it into your dir/folder. Re-extract it and try again. If it loads, you are fine. Else... perhaps one of the other datafiles has been corrupted. Restore your most recent backup and try running the software again. If it works you are fine, else your backup is also corrupted. Go to your next most recent backup (you did make the rotating set of 3 as suggested in our manual right?) and find one that works. Once you get working, you then need to bring your league back from the point of that backup (redoing whatever weeks that are necessary). If none of your backups work - then you'll have to start your season from scratch - SORRY! Q. Why didn't the posted stats save from last week? Why are my cumulative stats not equal to last week's totals + this current week's stats? A. You must save your changes each week using the Save option in the file menu OR when you are prompted to save when quitting the program. If they didn't save, there could have been a system or run-time error, such as printer error, or low memory. Try the following steps (order matters). Restore most recent backup and verify where you are at by printing. Cumulative stat summary league rosters and/or league transactions as necessary. Then work from there (depending on where your backup is from, you may have to redo 1 week or several weeks stats.) Reminder: the software will only save when you tell it to save thus it is good practice to save each time you post or make changes. Q. (Windows Only!) When I send reports to a web site or by e-mail I get an error? A. Check to see if you are online. If not, you must be connected to a live internet connection to use the web or e-mail report options in our Windows version. If you are connected, check to see if your Internet Setup (under the File Menu) is correct. If not, you may need to contact your ISP to confirm your e-mail or web information. Q. If I need to do multiple weeks, can they be done in one session? A. Yes, but you must save and quit after each week processed. Be sure to follow the weekly routine--ie. quit when instructions say quit and make a backup for each week. However, you can download multiple week's stat files in one online session. Q. Why should I backup every week? A. Hardware, software, and storage media are not perfect. Glitches can occur from static electricity to movement of the computer. Think of a backup as an insurance policy. Should you not have backups and something happens to your computer or hard disk, you have to start from the very start of the season (week00)! That could be a lot of work late in the season! Also, should you make a transaction mistake, it often can be corrected easier by restoring a backup, correcting the error and redoing a week's stats rather than correcting the transaction(s) and then having to use FIX to make the adjustments. Q. Why is player X not in your player list? His pro team has activated him onto their roster and an owner in our league wishes to do so, too. What do I do? A. Players are added to our database only when they have played in a game. Therefore, they may not be added until the week after they are activated by the pro team. So, place the player in your owner's farm system, for now. Then, next week, if he did play, claim him to that owner's roster before you post stats, so he can get credit for that week's stats. Q. Do I need to use salaries and/or contracts? A. Contracts and salaries are not mandatory. You can leave them blank. However, we suggest that you use them if possible. One scheme that we use for contract status goes as follows: a first year player (first year bid on or claimed) is an A, second year B, third year (option year in most leagues) C. If you sign a B player to a guaranteed contract after that B year, take the letters off the end of the alphabet. Say you signed him to a two year guaranteed contract, in our league he becomes an X (since you really have him for three years the C year and the two guaranteed ones).
